Michael Kennedy is one of the NEAT Advisory Group members from the NY state! Michael is a longtime leader in the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) and currently works at SANYS as a grassroots presenter. He is also a published author who recently published his autobiography, My Life In Institutions And My Way Out, in June of 2014.
Two wonderful NEAT partners have collaborated on creating a checklist for helping people to plan meetings and conferences that are accessible! The University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies (CCIDS) and Speaking Up for Us (SUFU) worked together to create a tool that’s “purpose is to provide practical recommendations that promote meaningful participation for everyone. The checklist may be completed electronically or printed and filled out by hand.”
On October 30 and 31, NEAT staff Hilary and Skye hit the road and headed to Albany, NY to talk about technology, NEAT, and self-advocacy with the many awesome folks at the SANYS state conference and to join the NY NEAT team in presenting a couple of workshops! More to come soon!
NEAT co-presents about Social Media and Video-Blogging (Vlogging) at SABE National Conference in Oklahoma City, OK. MASS member, Anne Fracht, and NEAT Admin Coordinator, Skye Peebles, helped members of OCSS present about using social media to connect.
Here is the video that Hilary created that explains how NEAT uses technology and social media to connect:
